A Buddhist's Diary March 14th 2009

This is a cattle guard.

It is put there to prevent cattle
from getting out by road.
Many people consider cattle guards
as useful receptacles for
discarded beer cans,
or even the more virtuous water bottles.

Dogs have to learn
how to deal with cattle guards.
At first they are very suspicious,
but then they realize
that they simply have to adjust
their vision and co-ordination,
and lo and behold,
they are flying over them with aplomb.
We humans,
with our analytic minds,
see what we have to do,
but we always treat cattle guards with caution.
Step carefully.
This empty place would not be ideal for a broken ankle.

That's it. I'm not going to go on about life's pitfalls. Go figure.
